Welcome to the Abyss

Everything you can imagine is real.

I meditated for 100+ hours and here are 3 things I learned (Self-experiment)

Before I say anything let me be clear, that I am still my neurotic self, and not some enlightened guru. (Are enlightened gurus more or less neurotic than the rest?) But the stillness I found, even amidst my usual whirlwind of thoughts, showed me there’s profound depth in every moment. The first thing I have learned is that:

I am not so different than the person next to me. They are a consciousness like me (or also just me), that happened to the way the are because of past experiences.

How they were raised, memories, personal biases,… You and I can do anything we set our mind to. Just go ahead and try. We all (mostly) start off the same way, it is just a matter of what we do after the childhood tutorial. (Of course, that is if your starting build didn’t come with any disease debuffs or that your parents have may have low charisma stats, but maxed out on strengh)

…Why did I just say that? Can’t I come up with anything better? Why, What, How, Think, think, think… I am not my thoughts.

They come and go, I don’t have to identify with them or add fuel to them. The best metaphor I just tend to always come back to are clouds in the sky. Picture yourself laying in a windy grass field and just looking up at the clouds above. If your field of view is looked onto one place the clouds move in and out of frame, just how thoughts would enter and leave your awareness. The flow of what do I eat for dinner today or the annoying thing that happened will sweep itself away if you just observe, but don’t engage.

Wabi-sabi; Nobody’s perfect, and that’s a good thing.

And I don’t just mean the grammatical errors I sprinkled into this post (I am not an English professor, nor am I from an English speaking country, so please forgive me) But isn’t it just great to be an imperfect being, learning from your mistakes, while also finding beauty in all the little imperfections? In my mind it gives us incredible freedom.

Thanks for reading! Peace.

I use headspace, and it has really been helpful in developing the habit.
